چکیده

Lan and Tewfik [3] have said that mobile communications and computation platforms must rely on batteries for their operation. Unlike other enabling technologies for mobile information systems, the specific energy of commercially available rechargeable batteries has improved at only about 2 percent per year over the past half century. Since frequent recharging is not a practical solution, wireless multimedia should be optimized for low energy consumption. The use of FEC (Forward Error Control) can decrease the transmit power. However, the additional processing required will increase the energy of computation [10]. Recently, turbo codes have attracted a great deal of interest since their discovery in 1993. Turbo codes have a performance near Shannon limit on the AWGN (Additive White Gaussian Noise) channel condition, but the problem is high complexity. This paper focuses on two perspectives. One is BER (Bit Error Rate) over SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio), which is related to transmit power perspective. The other is computation energy bit over the number of decoding iteration, which is processing power perspective. My simulation results show that increasing decoding iteration decreases bit error rate, but processing power linearly increase with the number of decoding iteration. This paper is organized as follows. In the next section, I present the turbo code, and the channel condition. The subsequent section describes the simulation results. Finally, future work will be followed.

Convolutional Interleaver for Unequal Error Protection of Turbo Codes

This paper describes construction of a convolutional interleaver as a block interleaver and discusses its application to turbo codes with equal and unequal error protection techniques. Based on simulations, different convolutional interleaver structures suitable for turbo codes with unequal error protection capability are suggested. Finally, based on conducted simulations the best method is sel...

Design of “Multiple–Turbo–Codes” with Transfer Characteristics of Component Codes

For the construction of low rate turbo– codes, the concept of multiple parallel concatenated codes, i.e. the “multiple–turbo–code” has been successfully employed e.g. in [13, 16]. Analysis of this structure has been done via simulations [16] or the analysis of equivalent coding schemes [13]. In this paper we extend the method of EXIT charts [5], that has been applied to multiple–turbo–codes con...

An approach to fault detection and correction in design of systems using of Turbo ‎codes‎

We present an approach to design of fault tolerant computing systems. In this paper, a technique is employed that enable the combination of several codes, in order to obtain flexibility in the design of error correcting codes. Code combining techniques are very effective, which one of these codes are turbo codes. The Algorithm-based fault tolerance techniques that to detect errors rely on the c...

Performance of Turbo Codes with Max-Log-MAP Decoding on Rayleigh Fading Channels

In this paper we investigate performance of turbo codes with Max-Log-MAP decoding on slow, flat Rayleigh fading channels. In order to simplify decoding algorithm implementation for a fading channel, the Gaussian distribution is applied to a channel metric. By means of computer simulations, we estimate BER of turbo codes on fully-interleaved and correlated channels with ideal CSI and without CSI...

On the Performance of Low Complexity Multiple Turbo Codes∗

In this paper, we study the convergence properties of low-complexity (2and 4-state) multiple turbo codes on an AWGN channel. An analytical approach to determine the extrinsic information transfer characteristics of 2-state codes is presented. This is then used to compute the convergence thresholds of several rate 1/2, 2-state multiple turbo codes. The convergence thresholds predicted by the ana...
